Akola

Maharashtra, India, 414102

Akola is one of the largest cities in the state of Maharashtra. There are Gavilgad ranges in the northern part of the district. The city is also home to several rivers and lakes that tourists like to go for sightseeing. It covers 5,428 square kilometres with a tropical climate having hot summers and the highest rainfall in July. Akola has an estimated population of 5,37,100 with coordinates of 20.7096° N 76.9981° E. Marathi, Hindi and English are widely spoken.

Akola is served by the Akola Municipal Corporation or the AMC and the Maharashtra Housing and Development Authority or the MHADA. Popular places include the Akola Fort, Narnala Fort, Balapur Fort, Asadgad Fort, Narnala Wildlife Sanctuary, etc. Anjangaon (74 km) and Daryapur (48.4 km) lie near Akola. Major roads include the Nagpur-Dhulia-Bombay Road and Akola-Hingoli among others. The Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji Airport is the nearest to Akola which caters to residents. Railway lines include the Howrah-Nagpur-Mumbai line and the Kacheguda-Jaipur meter gauge line. The Akola Metro spans Dhulghat Spiral which is also known as 'Char Cha Akda. Reputed educational institutions include the Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapeeth, K.M. Asgar Hussain Education College, Akash Institute, Prabhat Kids School etc. Leading malls include Jai Bhole Super Bazar and Shri Sadguru Provision are accompanied by reputed hospitals like Adhar Hospital, Akola Hospital, Chaudhary Hospital, and Ratnalikar Hospital. Major employment hubs include the Akola MIDC Industrial Area and numerous business parks. Companies like Bharat Petrol Pump, Rajshree Jewellers, Ziczac Solution and others have a presence here.
