The city has a fort area that used to be popularly known as “Daak Gadh” loosely translated to Gathering Room. It was built by Raja Krishanachandra, who was the king and zamindar of Nadia. Apart from its famous historical importance, Santipur is worldwide famous for its handloom sarees. The weaving style is unique to this place and has tremendously grown over a couple of years with the help of the Government. The majority of the residents of Santipur are engaged in the textile trade- for import and export business. The major employment options in the city are the handloom industry, cultivators, agricultural laborers, and other such workers. Hence, the residents who wish to do corporate work migrate to nearby major cities for employment purposes. The town is away from the busy city life, and the residents are always helpful and cheerful people. The residential properties in the town are mainly affordable and mid-market housing properties.
