Chamarajanagar or Chamarajanagara is a city located in southern Karnataka and derives its name from Chamaraja Wodeyar IX, the previous King of Mysore, or Arikottara. Chamarajanagara is the administrative headquarters of the Chamarajanagar District. It lies on the interstate highway that connects Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The area is also home to the Chamarajanagar Municipal Council and covers 18.75 square kilometers. The total population of the area is 69,875 people as of the year 2011. Kannada is the main language spoken here. The area was earlier called Sri Arikottara. The coordinates of the locality are 11.9261° N, 76.9437° E.
