Mehrauli is an ancient historical locality in the south-west district of Delhi, India. It is believed to have been founded by the late Raja Anangpal II in the 11th century A.D., who established the Anangpur Fort. Since then, Mehrauli has been an important centre for culture, trade, and commerce. It is also home to many ancient tombs, temples, forts and other monuments, including the famous Qutb Minar Complex. Mehrauli is surrounded by the Aravalli hills from three sides and by the Yamuna river from the fourth side. It is a residential and commercial hub, with several important shopping markets, restaurants, banks, and schools located in the area. The famous Mehrauli Archaeological Park is located in this area and contains many important monuments, including a fifth-century stepwell and the 15th century Jamali Kamali Tombs. The annual Qutb Festival is held here every year, in which several cultural and musical programs are organised. There are also a few important religious sites in Mehrauli, including the famous Gauri Shankar temple, Khirki Masjid, Chatta Rai, and Nahar Singh Mahal. Other attractions of Mehrauli include the Annual Crafts Mela held in February and the colourful weekly bazaars. Mehrauli is a place of immense historical significance, and is one of the most important localities in Delhi. One can explore the heritage of the city, and experience the unique culture of the area by visiting this area. Read More
