Patiala is among the princely states of Punjab, located in the southeastern part of the state. It lies between 29°49’ and 30°47’ north latitude, along with 75°58’ and 76°54’ east longitude with an elevation of 250 meters. It has Sangrur district towards the west, Rupnagar, Fatehgarh Sahib, and the Union Territory of Chandigarh in the north, Kaithal district of Haryana toward the south, and Ambala and Kurukshetra towards the east. Patiala is the fourth largest city in the state and the administrative capital. The other name of the place is ‘Patiala - The Royal City and Patiala: The Beautiful City.’
As per the census of 2011, Patiala UA has an 820,000 Punjabi-speaking population, and the city had a 763,280 population.

The Ambala railway station is another source of connectivity, though its airport is yet to become operational. However, Chandigarh airport is its closest at just 62 km.
