Jamui is a leading municipality and town in the District of Jamui, Bihar. It is the headquarters of the District as well. It became a district in 1991 and is also within the Munger Division. The town lies 60 km south-westwards from Munger as well. Jamui is a historical area with legends mentioning how it existed from the time of the Mahabharata. A big portion of the area is under forest cover. Jamui has its own Nagar Parishad for infrastructural development and governance. The population of the town stood at 87,357 people as of the year 2011. The coordinates of Jamui are 24.92°N 86.22°E.
