Jamui is a leading municipality and town in the District of Jamui, Bihar. It is the headquarters of the District as well. It became a district in 1991 and is also within the Munger Division. The town lies 60 km south-westwards from Munger as well. Jamui is a historical area with legends mentioning how it existed from the time of the Mahabharata. A big portion of the area is under forest cover. Jamui has its own Nagar Parishad for infrastructural development and governance.
