Tirupattur or Tirupathur is the headquarters for the District of Tirupathur within Tamil Nadu. It is one of the oldest places inhabited by settlers in the State and has a chequered history going back by 1,600 years. The town is famous for its sandalwood and lies 89 km away from Vellore. Hosur and Dharmapuri are located 85 km and 60 km away from the city respectively. The name equates to ten towns and is a major Taluk with several villages. It was also a leading revenue division under the rule of the British. The Tirupathur Municipality was developed in 1886.
