Muzaffarnagar is a leading city within the District of Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh. It lies along the Delhi-Dehradun/Haridwar National Highway while also linking with the railway network. It is also called as the Sugar Bowl of the State. It was earlier known as Sarwat and lies within the fertile and lush Upper Ganga-Yamuna-Doab Region. It lies near Saharanpur and New Delhi and is one of the State’s most developed cities within the Saharanpur Division. The city is also within the DMIC (Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor) and the ADKIC (Amritsar-Delhi-Kolkata Industrial Corridor). It also has a shared border with the Indian State of Uttarakhand. It is one of the biggest educational, industrial and commercial hubs of the western part of Uttar Pradesh. The area is governed by its own municipal board and it covers 204.8 square kilometers in total. The population of the area stands at 495,543 people as of the year 2011. The languages spoken here include Urdu, Hindi, and English. The coordinates of Muzaffarnagar are 29°28′56″N 77°42′00″E.
