Hosur was earlier part of Mysore, today it is a city that is located in Tamil Nadu State, under Krishnagiri district under the Hosur division. Its old name in the 10th century was Chevidapadi and in the 13th century was called Murasunadu. It is situated on the Ponnaiyar River banks, very near Bengaluru in Karnataka. The total geographical area of Hosur is around 72.41 km2 It has a population of approximately 4.95 lakhs (as of the year 2020). It is geographically located at 12.735oN and 77.829oE. People speak Kanada & English. The official language is Tamil. Hosur enjoys a moderate climate year-round as it is situated at an elevation of 880 meters above sea level. Hosur is under the Hosur Municipal Corporation. The Kelavarapalli Dam is only 10 km away. Rajaji Memorial at Thorapalli, Sri Chandrachoodeshwara Temple, and Walkers Lane at Ramanaicken Lake & Ecological Park are some places to visit. Infrastructure and Details Swetamber Jain Temple- Shree Parshwa Susheel Dham is 19km. Hosur is 35 km from Bangalore to the South-East. It is just 48 km from the district headquarters of Krishnagiri. From Chennai, it is 306 km to the West. Hosur is well connected by NH44 to Chennai, Bangalore, Madurai, Salem and Mysore. There are TNSTC buses, and KSRTC & APSRTC buses connecting the city to these places. Hosur Railway station under the Bangaluru-Salem line serves the city. The Bangalore International Airport is 77 km away. Hosur is a large industrial hub and has many Automobile and other manufacturing units such as Ashok Leyland, TVS Motors, Titan, Sundaram Clayton, Harita Fehrer, and Kansai Nerolac Paints, General Electric, etc. Gunam Super Speciality Hospital, Sri Chandra Sekara Hospital and Kauvery Hospital are nearby. St Mary Magdaline School, Diamond Stone International School and Onnalvadi Schools are in the vicinity.
