Rourkela is a city in the northern part of Odisha and is known to be the third-largest Agglomeration in the state. It is 328 km towards the western part of Bhubaneshwar, with a range of hills, Koel River, Sankha, and Brahma on its side. The city is known as Steel City and Ispar Nagar. The place is popular for Rourkela Steel Plant, set up long back with German collaboration. It has been selected as the smart city under the National cities mission and the fastest moving city.

National Highway NH 143 passes through Rourkela and meets NH 55 through Chas, Ranchi, Rourkela, Barkote, and Banarpal Junction. There is also NH 215 that runs from Rajamunda towards the Jajpur district. Besides, there is SH 10 that connects Rourkela to Sambalpur.
The Rourkela railway junction is within the village of Mahulpali. It connects big cities like Mumbai, Kolkata, Ranchi, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Pune, Chennai, and Delhi well. However, there is no direct flight facility from the airport, and it is yet to start the daily service.
Several healthcare centers include Rourkela government hospital, Ispat general hospital, Shanti Memorial hospital, and others. Some ICSE and CBSE board schools are Sri Aurobindo’s Rourkela School, Mt. Carmel School, Indo English School, and MGM English Medium. It's Hi-Tech Medical College and Hospital is a private college. Besides, there are 15 science, arts, and commerce colleges under Sambalpur University.
