Earlier Wadala was called Parel, Matunga, Dharavi etc. This place comes under Mumbai Municipal Corporation and covers the area of 6.52 sq. km. People here experience hot and humid weather with powerful monsoons. Wadala has estimated population of 143064 and the male and female populations are 74526 and 68538 respectively. The coordinates of this place are of 19.02163°N 72.86459°E. Marathi, Hindi and English are widely spoken however, Marathi is the official language here.

As Wadala is considered as the main centre of Mumbai, it is surrounded by Dadar on the West, Matunga on the Northwest, and Sewri on the South. As a part of Mumbai this place is also the home of old temples, Universities and the famous IMAX dome theatre (4.7km), formerly known as world's largest theatre. Wadala has a very good connectivity of trains for Harbour, central and western line. If you walk for 10-15 minutes you will reach to Wadala Railway station (1.8km) and Sion Railway station (5.6km).
