Amritsar was formerly known as Ramdaspur. It is the second-largest city in the state of Punjab. It is a major hub of economic, cultural and transportation in the Amritsar region. The city is home to the holiest shrine of Punjab, the Golden Temple. It covers 139 square kilometres with a subtropical and dry climate having very mild winters.
