Bokaro is officially called the Steel City and is a leading city in Jharkhand. It is the 4th biggest and highest-populated city in the State. It is also located on the banks of the River Garga. It is surrounded by hills and had a population of 563,417 people as of 2011. The city covers 183 kilometers in total. The oldest settlement in the area is Marafari. The city was formally founded by the SAIL (Steel Authority of India) and is famous for its gas exploration, steel production and related sectors. Its coordinates are 23.6693° N, 86.1511° E.
