Solan is a city in Himachal Pradesh, and it is its district headquarter. It is 45.5 km to the south of Shimla. With an elevation of 1284 metres, it is located between Shimla and Chandigarh. Besides, Solan is on the Shivalik hills of the Himalayas.
Initially, the city used to be the capital of Baghat. The city is known for its temples and monasteries. Solan is also called the mushroom city of India.
It has a 39,256 population, making it the second-largest city of Himachal, with a literacy rate of 85.02%. Spread over 33.43 square kilometres, it is a municipal city with 17 wards.
