Ichalkaranji, mainly known for its primary texting manufacturing industry, is a city located in the Kolhapur District of Maharashtra. Due to the vast presence of the textile industry, Ichalkaranji is popularly known as the Manchester of Maharashtra. The city has company of handlooms, power loom, and a knitting industry that exports fabrics worldwide. Ichalkaranji is more famous for its grey cloth production and is sent to major cities like Mumbai and Delhi for further processing. Recently, a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) named ITDC, or Ichalkaranji Textile Development Cluster was formed to enhance the infrastructural facilities of the city. Although the city is not directly connected by rail or air, the nearest railway station is only 6km away, and the nearest airport is Kolhapur airport which is 30 km away.
