The Nilgiris district is among the 38 districts of Tamil Nadu. Its name comes from the range of mountains that are spread across the borders of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. It serves some of the most populated areas of the Nilgiris like Wellington, Coonoor, Ketti, Lovedale, Aruvankadu, and Ooty. As there are no airport or seaport in this district, one can find the nearest airport at Coimbatore. There are one district headquarters government hospital, 38 primary health centres, five taluk hospitals, 194 health sub-centres, and five plague circles in the district. Some of the best educational institutions in the Nilgiris include The Lawrence School, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Shree Sarasswathi Vidhyaah Mandheer, St. Jude's Public School & Junior College, Good Shepherd International School etc. Philomena shopping mall, Lower Bazaar Road, Charring Cross, Ooty Municipal Market, Tibetan Market are some of the best places that serves as a shopping centre.
